Miscommunication...

If I were to distinguish one experience that I have witnessed in which information was miscommunicated in the work setting, I would have to describe the most recent occurrence, which was today. Unfortunately this experience included me. Today I had a meeting in Greenville with Northwestern Mutual, where I will be working this coming summer as an intern. This meeting was set up almost one week ago for 2:00 this afternoon. While I was writing down the time and place for this meeting, apparently I wrote down 3:00 instead of 2:00. Unfortunately at 1:30 this afternoon when I received a phone call confirming this meeting, I was caught completly off gaurd. On the bright side when I explained that I had thought the meeting was at three instead of two o'clock today the Human Resources director was very understanding about the situation and she was available at 3:00 for me to come in. I believe this could have been prevented if I had paid more attention in the initial conversation scheduling this appointment as well as possibly sending an email a few days ago to confirm the meeting. I believe most miscommunications, both large and small, can be avoided if the correct precautions are taken.

Final Presentation and Portfolios...

After the final group of presentations, I believe my favorite was done on the battle of the bands at 356. I think this was the most effective presentation because he used his bands myspace site to play a few songs for the class that would be played at the show that night. He also did a great job appealing to our ethos by mentioning that all proceeds go to charity.

I have only made one online portfolio in my time at Clemson, and to be totally honest I do not remember what server I used because it was my freshman year. I do however remember that my experience was relatively good, considering my lack of experience.

3 of my favorite presentations...

This past week we have been making our five minute presentations on topics of our choice. It has been interesting to me to see what interests people in our class, and what they have wanted to share with the rest of us. I believe that the three presentations that I enjoyed the most, besides my own of course =) would have to be, "The Drive Through Process, "Why Should You Own an Aquarium?" and "Tips for Surviving in a Large Family." All three of these presentations were so enjoyable for me because they were all very funny. I believe the best way to get people's attention is to make them laugh. Melesha did a fantastic job of getting the audience's attention by making us laugh right from the beginning. Her rhetorical questions were very effective in keeping our attention. With a slightly different style of humor, Holmes did a great job of keeping our attention by using bright pictures with a lot of color. His humor was more of a dry satire than Melesha's was. Finally Kelly Murphy did her presentation on how to survive in a large family. This one was particurally interesting to me because I myself am from a very large family and I found that every one of these "rules" she layed out were 100 percent correct. The topics themselves made these presentations so appealing for me as well as they way in which they delivered their presentations
